Ingredients
- 6 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups salt, process in food processor or blender first
- 5 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 6 cups water
- Food coloring (optional)
- Extract or essential oil (optional)
- Stock pot
- Mixing bowl
- Rubber spatula
- Rubber gloves
- Cooking mat
- 24 quart-sized ziploc baggies
Directions
Step 1: pulverize salt until super fine.
Step 2: with a whisk, mix the dry ingredients in a stock pot.
Step 3: in a separate bowl, add water and oil.
Step 4: add liquids to the stockpot and turn the stove on to medium-high heat. Once hot, turn the temperature to medium.
Step 5: continue stirring until the play dough comes together.
Step 6: once the play dough is no longer wet and has turned into a mass of dough, turn it out onto a cooking mat.
Step 7: using thick kitchen gloves (as it will be hot), knead the dough until smooth.
Step 8: roll into a log and divided in 12 sections, for 12 play dough balls.
Step 9: skip step if not using food coloring, extracts/essential oils, or glitter.
Make a well in the center of each dough ball and add food coloring to desired color, 2-4 drops of extract/essential oils, and a 1-3 teaspoons glitter. Close dough balls and place the balls into a Ziploc bag. Knead the dough together until evenly combined.
Step 10: store in a sealed Ziploc bag in an air tight container and for best results put it in the fridge when not using it.
