Edible sensory activities can be highly engaging for most children, especially when sweets are involved. Edible sensory play makes it easy to turn baking with your toddlers into a learning environment in which they'll thrive. Edible play times are a perfect way to include more one on one activities into your day. Please make sure all elements are size appropriate. It is crucial to make sure that your sensory play options are safe and entirely edible. This is because young children are often more inclined to put various objects into their mouths.

Things you'll need for activity

  • Angel hair & fettucine noodles or similar  (any variety, allergy specific)
  • Food coloring of choice. Gel or other
  • Cooking oil of choice
  • Stock pot
  • Water
  • Plastic baggies
  • Colander
  • Container for activity

How To Make

Step 1: boil water & cook pasta according to package directions. Be sure to add oil to prevent sticking once cooked.

Step 2: strain pasta & run under cold water, until cooled.

Step 3: add a few tablespoons of water to a plastic bag and food coloring. Amount of food coloring will depend on how vibrant you want the noodles and whether you're using gel or not.

Step 4: add noodles and shake until all are colored. Repeat with all colors.

Step 5: if theres access water in the baggies, strain again & retrun to bag. If theres not, skip this step,

Step 6: allow noodles an hoour of dry time in fridge. Noddles will be cold when removed from fridge. Take into consideration if your child is senstive to the cold.

How To Play

This activity can begin several different ways. By either placing all the noodles into the sensory bin or by putting your child in first, then allowing them to pull noodles into the bin on their own & dumping them in as well.  Once all the noddles are in, allow your child to explore. Touching with their hands and feet. Tasting as they use their hand eye coordination to move the noddles to their mouths. There is no one, or wrong way to play. Skies the limit. Such a sensory filled activity with all the bright colors and edible fun.
