Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried chickpeas aka garbanzo beans
  • Food coloring (liquid or gel), liquid watercolors, acrylic paints, or BioColor paint
  • Gallon-size plastic ziplock baggie
  • Parchment paper
  • XL cookie sheet or tray

Directions

Step 1: dump beans into the baggie.

Step 2: add about a tablespoon of the thicker paints or 1/2 tablespoon of the liquid or gel. Start with less paint and add more if needed.

Step 3: seal baggie, shake and massage in paint. If there’s areas of uncoated chickpeas, add in more paint.

Step 4: when fully colored, dump onto parchment lined cookie sheet and let dry.

Step 5: be sure to move the chickpeas around as they dry because they will clump while drying. Move after just a few minutes, do this several times. Dry time will depend on type of paint used. Even after they are dry to the touch, leave out for several days before putting into an air tight container for proper storage.

STORAGE

If dyed properly and stored in an air tight container, can last up to a year but always check for spoilage.
