Edible sensory activities can be highly engaging for most children, especially when sweets are involved. Edible sensory play makes it easy to turn baking with your toddlers into a learning environment in which they'll thrive. Edible play times are a perfect way to include more one on one activities into your day. Please make sure all elements are size appropriate. It is crucial to make sure that your sensory play options are safe and entirely edible. This is because young children are often more inclined to put various objects into their mouths.

Things you'll need for activity

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • 2 1/2 cups rice krispies
  • 2 cups small marshmallows + more for attaching to the pretzel sticks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • Pretzel sticks
  • White chocolate
  • Scissors

How To Make

Step 1: melt butter and marshmallows in a pan.

Step 2: add coco to melted marshmallows and mix.

Step 3: remove from heat, add cereal and mix.

Step 4: dump into pan to cool.

Step 5: melt white chocolate in microwave safe bowl.

Step 6: cut marshmallows in half and attach to one end of the pretzel sticks, to mimic the turkey leg bones.

Step 7: place one pretzel with the marshmallows attached over the bowl of melted chocolate. With a spoon, pour over the end with marshmallows attached. Be careful to not add too much chocolate at time, so as to make to heavy or the marshmallows will come off. Cover most of the stick and place on parchment lined plate.

Step 8: place all chocolate covered pretzels into freezer for a few minutes.

Step 9: once chocolate sticks are set, take a small amount of rice Krispie mixture and roll into a ball. Compact it, so that its tight enough to hold the stick.

Step 10: slide one stick in and press Krispies to the seal around the stick.

Step 11: repeat until done.
